Christmas Pines Camp Meeting
Auburn, PA
September 18-20, 2009
Christmas Pines Campground is one of those rare little get-a-ways that is off the beaten path in the mountains of eastern Pennsylvania. We have been going to Christmas Pines and have conducted programs there for the past ten years. In the process, we fell in love with the campground and have made lifelong friendships with its owners and many of the people who camp there.
Above and Left: We love this porch!!! Ren and I have many, many fond memories of sitting here late into the evening with our friends laughing, playing games, eating or just talking. It is a big wrap-around porch with plenty of chairs and seems to be the gathering place more often than not.
Below: For the camp meeting we played some old-time games like marbles, jump rope, and hopscotch.
Left and Below: There was a hands-on spinning wheel demonstration.
Right and Below Right: ...and a quilting display and demonstration.
Above: An old fashioned wooden toy display kept the attention of curious eyes and ears..
Left: The roaring fire in the pavilion's fireplace was kept going for most of the activities (including baking cornbread in a dutch oven using the coals) and all of the church services. It was very cozy!
While Ren and I did provide some of the music for the services, one of the biggest blessings was the music and singing of the Howell Family. Not only was their music a blessing, but their friendship and testimony as well.
We even played a few hymns together as one large group which was a lot of fun, as well as a duet with hammered dulcimer and cello. The real blessing is that they plan on being a part of next year's camp meeting as well!
And of course there was preaching which is what the annual Christmas Pines Old Time Camp Meeting is all about. We had five services, all of them fairly well attended and the Lord blessed far above what I was expecting! The theme for the weekend was "Living in the Last Days" but really focused on the authority of God's Word in the world we live as well as our hearts and lives.
We want to invite you to next year's camp meeting which is scheduled for September 17-19, 2010. I also want to extend an invitation to you to visit Christmas Pines Campground in Auburn, Pennsylvania anytime throughout their camping season. It is a beautiful, fun and relaxing campground. I'm sure you will love it as much as we do!
