Learn to play the Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer or learn to play better! In this fun two- day workshop, we will start at the beginning, from the correct way to hold your instrument, and from there we will cover:

Basic, yet oft neglected, fundamentals of playing
Simple to more complex rhythmic strumming
Flat-picking
Crosspicking
Playing in different octaves
Playing Back-up and Lead
Understanding Chords & Keys
Movable chord shapes and chord progressions
Various techniques such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, chokes, and more
The basics of playing by ear-diddling and noodling
Ideas on how to embellish a tune-EXTENSIVE
Learn several tunes and building on them
And more!!!

You will be playing a song within the first five minutes of the workshop, but most important, you will gain the tools and understanding necessary to play proficiently by the end of it! There is no need to have any prior musical ability.

Several tunes will be taught, and you will leave with an understanding sufficient enough to continue learning the material on your own. It is recommend to bring a dulcimer capo (available for purchase with prior notice). This is not only a great introduction to this traditional instrument, but this workshop will get you well on your way to becoming an accomplished instrumentalist! We will also cover caring and maintanance of your instrument. My wife will be assisting in the workshop so there will be plenty of hands-on personal help. Included in the workshop is a 20-page workbook covering the material presented. Cost of the workshop is $75. We will take a lunch and dinner break on Saturday with many available restaurants in the area.

The workshop will be held at the Bible Believer's Baptist Church,1252 E. Aurora Road in Macedonia, OH, who has so graciously let us use the building. To register, just send a check or money order to:

Thank you so much for conducting the dulcimer workshop last weekend at Touchstone.  I learned so much.  You are a fantastic musician who knows how to communicate your love of music to others.  You made us all feel at ease and gave us the feeling that anyone can learn music.  You certainly impart much information in a weekend and send us home with a desire to practice and learn all that we can.  For all those who might be reading this and wondering if they should try to learn this instrument, take a class from Brett and you will be very glad you did.  Thanks to Serenity too for all she contributed to the class.  So fun to get to know you both.  It was a great time.  Little did I know when I signed up that I would come home with many new friends. Wish I was closer to PA so I could meet with the other participants.

Thank you so much for the wonderful mountain dulcimer workshop at Touchstone last weekend. It's only been one week and I can truly say I'm making great progress. This, thanks to your instruction and positive way of instilling confidence in the participants. I'm hoping to take your next workshop in November because I feel it's a perfect follow up review and reinforcement of the last lesson. Although it's a 2 1/2 hour trip for me I feel it's well worth it! The instruction and fellowship were very uplifting for me. Keep up the good work!
